What Does a Doula Do?
Doulas help women through their pregnancy and birth journeys by offering physical, informational, and emotional support. This support starts as soon as you choose me as your doula, and it continues through your pregnancy, during your labor, and even after your birth.
How might this look? During pregnancy, I'll meet with you to provide information about all the changes mom, partner, and baby are going through. I can specially seek out answers to your unique questions. I offer evidence-based resources to help prepare you to meet your baby. I provide families with education and options so they can make INFORMED decisions for what best suits their family. During labor I can utilize techniques I have learned in specialty trainings to relieve physical issues mom is facing. I have been taught specific comfort measures that I implement into my doula practice, and these all add up to providing relief and reassurance to both parents. Emotional support comes as I cheer you on, help keep things normal, and take some of your load when you feel overwhelmed. When you question if what you're doing is "right," I can be a sounding-board to help you process your feelings. When you feel unsure or ready to give up, that's when I, as your doula, step in to comfort, love, listen and mother the mother. As a doula, I'm very familiar with the birth process. I stay grounded, confident, and knowledgeable for you and your family when things feel stressful, when things hurt, or when you don't know what direction to go in. One more amazing perk of having a doula is that I'm in it for the long haul! There is no shift change -- there is no clocking out! I'm with you from the very moment you need me, throughout your labor, to shortly after birth! |
